News on the Block

First came a splendid book by six strong women leaders, Women Leading the Way.  Now comes a fellowship program for promising young women leaders.

The Fellowship for Emerging Women Leaders in Nonprofits will work in depth with 8 to 10 young women over a 8 month period - guiding, mentoring and developing what's best in each so they will be ready to assume the leadership our community needs.

The Program

Inspired by the splendid book by six strong women leaders, Women Leading the Way, the Academy for Leadership and Governance is pleased to launch plans for our third group of emerging women leaders. The focus of the Fellowship for Young Women is the issues of leadership:  what is required, the variety of styles and the core attributes.  During the experience participants will utilize instruments and tools for self-assessment of their current leadership capacities and work to set goals and build skills related to their leadership development.

The program will begin with an opening reception for those selected as participants followed by  four-hour monthly sessions for eight months.  These sessions are held on weekdays from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Jefferson Center for Learning & the Arts Carriage House at 65 Jefferson Avenue. The focus of these meetings is on issues to be identified by the fellows together with such core leadership and management topics as self-management, work-life balance, cultural competency, partnership building, oral and written communication, fund developments and finance, and board relations.

Leadership

The fellowship will be led by Lead Trainer/Coach Tuesday Ryan-Hart. Tuesday will be joined by a selection of notable women leaders in Central Ohio who will act as Faculty-Mentors for the program. Both the Lead Trainer/Coach and Faculty-Mentors are responsible for the curriculum.
