The Executive Fellowship is for those nonprofit executives who sense they are ready for growth and change.

They could be executives who are approaching a new leadership position, those who have been in their present job for eight or ten years, or someone starting out in an executive role for the very first time.  The commonality is the desire of the executive to do better, to work at a new level, to be energized and refreshed.

The Program

We will work in depth on five areas:  developing a leadership voice, working in partnership with the board president, engaging the board, providing institutional leadership, and practicing community citizenship.  Because we believe that executive leadership is less about skill and knowledge and more about the leader as a person, we will focus on identifying and developing leadership voice.  Because we believe that leadership is a highly relational enterprise, we will spend time on the executive’s special relationship to the board president and the board.  Because we believe leadership is an expression of values and community, we will attend to issues of organizational ethics and building the common good.

In all the programs of the Academy for Leadership & Governance, we say that we wish to work with small groups, in-depth, over time, to change leadership behavior.  We therefore will work with ten to twelve fellows each year over an six-month period.

The Faculty

The faculty for the Fellowships are comprised of leaders in the philanthropic and not-for-profit community.  They have substantial organizational experience and care deeply about the importance of this fellowship program for those who have chosen a career in nonprofit leadership.
